Raleigh Construction Site Checklist: Toilets, Handwashing and Dumpsters

Begin with the project phases

A construction site changes as demolition, framing and finishing proceed. Plan sanitation and debris handling around that sequence. Write down peak crew size, shifts, likely project duration and the materials leaving each phase. Do not choose a toilet count or dumpster size from the job name alone. Record an on-site contact who can approve changes and provide access.

Mark separate equipment locations

Put the restroom, handwashing station, dumpster, material stacks and gate on a simple site sketch. Leave a usable pedestrian route to the restroom and a service approach that will remain available. A container exchange should not block toilet service, and a material delivery should not close the only collection route. Confirm actual equipment dimensions and door clearances before final placement.

Keep material acceptance clear

List mixed debris and dense materials separately. Ask what can be loaded, how high and within which weight allowance. Give each trade the same instructions and keep excluded items out of the container. A larger bin does not automatically permit a heavier load. Review construction dumpsters before the first waste is moved.

Plan return visits

Cleaning, refills, container exchanges and final pickups continue after delivery. Identify who opens gates and how changed entrances are reported. Confirm notice requirements for extensions and collection. Tell the rental provider before moving a restroom or closing the truck approach. Review construction toilets and handwashing as a combined crew-facility discussion.
